Since the handout of their debut single, "Smoke the Prophets," which was voted NME Single of the Week in 1994, the Leeds-based tout ensemble has continued to meditate a dance-inspiring optical unification of ethnic instrumentality, electronic keyboards, and lavish soundscapes. Initially attracting attention with an EP remix of the Rootsman's melody "Soundclash City Rockers," Black Star Liner recorded several singles for Feargal Sharkey's EXP tag before signing with WEA in 1997. After cathartic an EP, Rock Freak, for the tag, they recorded a full-length album, Bengali Bantam Youth Experience.
